How mobile quizzes are scored

All information you need about mobile quizzes!

Quizzes are built per module. Tap Generate quiz from a module, your flashcards, your Currently learning list, or the Leagues screen, and we'll put together a fresh set of questions.

One rule underpins everything else: a question is worth more the first time you get it right. New material pays full price, repeat material pays less. Learning beats grinding, at least where points are concerned.

What a question is worth

Every question shows its tier, so you know what it's worth before you answer.

Label

What it means

Points

NEW

You've not answered this one correctly before

4

REVIEW

You've answered it correctly once

2

PRACTICE

You've answered it correctly twice or more, and we believe you

1

Points are awarded once, when you finish the quiz — not question by question.

Mastery is tracked per module, so a familiar topic met in a different module starts again at NEW.

Example: 6 NEW and 4 REVIEW questions answered correctly earns (6 × 4) + (4 × 2) = 32 points.

Revisiting a module you know well

Quizzes serve up unmastered questions first, so most of what you see should be NEW.

There's no point at which a module stops paying out. However many times you've answered a question correctly, it stays at PRACTICE and keeps earning 1 point. Those points go to your weekly league rather than your global rank, and your streak and missions count as normal.

Where your points go

Only first-time correct answers build your global ranking.

Streaks

Every completed quiz, whatever the tiers

Weekly missions

Every completed quiz, whatever the tiers

A quiz made up entirely of REVIEW and PRACTICE questions still earns league points, keeps your streak, and moves your missions along — but adds nothing to your global rank or level.

The reasoning: the global leaderboard should reflect how much you've learned, while leagues reflect how active you've been. Review counts towards activity, not breadth.

Rooms and tasks are unaffected. Those points count everywhere, as before.

Wrong answers

There's no penalty for a wrong answer, and no limit on retries. The question pays its full tier value as soon as you get it right, however many attempts that takes. Nobody's counting.

Hints

Each question offers up to three hint levels. The first two point you in the right direction and don't affect your points.

The third reveals the answer. The question counts as completed, but earns 0 points.

Skipping

You can skip a question any time before you check your answer. It counts as completed so the quiz can finish, but earns 0 points.

If you answer it correctly later in the same quiz, it earns its full tier value.

Speed

Your time appears on the results screen for your own interest only. There's no speed bonus and no penalty for taking longer, so feel free to think about it.

XP boosts

An active XP boost multiplies your quiz points, and applies wherever those points go. A boosted NEW answer sends the boosted amount to both the global leaderboard and your league.

Leaving a quiz early

Points are only awarded on completion, so an unfinished quiz earns nothing.

Closing the app saves your progress and you can pick up where you left off. Using the quit prompt ends that quiz permanently — no points, and you'll need to generate a new one.

Recaps

Recaps use the same screen but are scored separately: 8 points per question, counting the questions where you didn't reveal the answer. The NEW/REVIEW/PRACTICE tiers don't apply.

Common questions

I earned fewer points than last time on the same module. Questions you've already answered correctly return as REVIEW (2 points) or PRACTICE (1 point) rather than NEW (4 points).

My league score went up but my global rank didn't move. Expected if the quiz was mostly REVIEW and PRACTICE. Only first-time correct answers count towards the global leaderboard and your level.

Some questions scored nothing. Check for skipped questions and revealed answers. Both let you complete the quiz but earn nothing for that question, and they're the only things that pay zero — every question you answer correctly is worth at least 1 point.

No points at all. Points arrive when the quiz completes, so finish any remaining questions. If a completed quiz still shows nothing after a refresh, contact us with the module name and roughly when you took it.
