What is a TryHackMe Workspace?

A workspace allows you to compete and collaborate with others in your organization. By using your work or school email, you can join your organisation's workspace, where you can work on challenges as a team and aim for a top spot on the leaderboard!

Many businesses and educational institutions join TryHackMe to take advantage of our gamification features, which are designed to accelerate learning through healthy competition with yourself, your colleagues, or your team. In a workspace, members can track their performance relative to other users. They can view their results, such as points and streaks, and participate in team challenges. This encourages both individual growth and collective engagement.

What Does a TryHackMe Workspace Look Like?

In a TryHackMe workspace, users can find several key features:

  • Leaderboard: A leaderboard showcases the top scorers for the month, highlighting those who have earned the most points. Users can also track the streak, which reflect ongoing activity and achievements.

  • Member List: Users can view the members of their workspace. Clicking Show all members brings up a pop-up with the complete list of participants.

  • Recent Activity: Recent activities within the team, such as answered questions and completed rooms, are visible to users.

  • Challenges: Users can participate in both monthly and one-time challenges as a team, promoting collaboration and competition.

How Does It Work In Detail?

Workspaces are based on your email’s domain extension. For example, if your email is [email protected], you will join a workspace that includes everyone with the same domain - tryhackme. Workspaces are separated by domain variations. To combine workspaces with different domains, refer to the other sections in this article below.

Important: You can only join a workspace with a school or work email - public email addresses like Gmail or Hotmail are not supported.

If needed, you can update your email to a work or school address through your TryHackMe account settings. However, if you signed up using Google Single Sign-On (SSO), your email is tied to your Google account. In this case, to update your email, you would need to delete your current account and create a new one with the desired email address.

Workspace leaderboards reflect points earned only from rooms within your custom learning paths or assignments.

How do I join a Workspace?

First, go to the workspace page. If your organisation's workspace has not been created yet, you will be prompted to enter its name as the first member joining. Keep in mind, workspace names are not unique, and multiple workspaces can share the same name; workspaces only function from your email extension.

To join or create a workspace, you must first verify your email on TryHackMe.

Important: Once you have joined a workspace, you cannot leave or switch (at this time.) Changing your email will keep you in the workspace, but you will lose access to view your organisation's workspace page.

How Does a Leaderboard Work?

The leaderboard is based on the points users earn throughout the month. These points reset to 0 at 23:59 GMT on the last day of each month. Points are awarded by completing rooms, with more difficult rooms, such as challenge rooms, offering more points than easier walkthrough rooms.

Combining Workspaces

If your email domain is @tryhackme.com, you will be placed in a different workspace than someone with the domain @uk.tryhackme.com. However, if you are part of our business or education plans, you can request to combine workspaces (e.g., merging @uk.tryhackme.com and @tryhackme.com into one workspace) by contacting the support team.
